Lorentz Transformations and Statistical Mechanics
In [Gottlieb (1998)] and [Gottlieb (2000)] we launched a study of Lorentz transformations. We find that every Lorentz transformation can be expressed as an exponential e where F is a skew symmetric operator with respect to the Minkowski metric 〈 , 〉 of form −+++. We provided F with the notation of electromagnetism. Thus we can describe boosts as pure ~ E fields and rotations as pure ~ B fields....
متن کاملLorentz Violation and Neutrinos *
Neutrino oscillations provide an opportunity for sensitive tests of Lorentz invariance. This talk reviews some aspects of Lorentz violation in neutrinos and the prospect of testing Lorentz invariance in neutrinooscillation experiments. A general Lorentz-violating theory for neutrinos is discussed, and some signals of Lorentz violation are identified.
متن کاملGLAST and Lorentz violation
We study possible Lorentz violations by means of gamma-ray bursts (GRB) with special focus on the Large Array Telescope (LAT) of GLAST. We simulate bursts with gtobssim and introduce a Lorentz violating term in the arrival times of the photons. We further perturb these arrival times and energies with a Gaussian distribution corresponding to the time resp. energy resolution of GLAST. We then var...
متن کاملLorentz Violation and Gravity
Lorentz symmetry lies at the heart of relativity and is a feature of low-energy descriptions of nature. Minuscule Lorentz-violating effects arising in theories of quantum gravity offer a promising candidate signal for new physics at the Planck scale. A framework is presented for incorporating Lorentz violation into general relativity and other theories of gravity. Applying this framework yields...
متن کاملInfinitesimally Nonlocal Lorentz Violation
We introduce a new Lorentz-violating modification to a scalar quantum field theory. This interaction, while super-renormalizable by power counting, is fundamentally different from the interactions previously considered within the Lorentz-violating standard model extension. The Lagrange density is nonlocal, because of the presence of a Hilbert transform term; however, this nonlocality is also ve...
